Overmolding and Insert Molding for Cable Assembly Protection

Specializing in overmolding and insert molding, Yuzhan delivers custom cable molding for strain relief, sealing, and connector protection. In-house tooling enables rapid mold development for cable/wire harness applications requiring IP67/IP68 ratings.

Material options: TPE for flexibility/grip, PVC for durability/chemical resistance, silicone for high temperatures, and polyurethane for abrasion resistance. Shore hardness 30A–90A accommodates various flexibility/protection needs for waterproof cables.

Strain relief molding protects cable-connector junctions from repeated flexing and pull stress. Custom backshells and boots match connector geometries for USB, HDMI, and industrial connectors. Multi-shot molding allows integrated grip textures and color-coded identification.

capabilities serve marine (sealed entries), automotive engine bay harnesses, and industrial equipment in harsh conditions. Logos/branding can be incorporated into mold designs.

Tooling typically takes 2–3 weeks, with expedited options available. Potting provides alternative encapsulation for electronics protection. Contact us for overmolding quotes for your cable assembly strain relief and sealing requirements.

Molding FAQ

What is overmolding used for in cable assemblies?

Overmolding provides strain relief at cable-to-connector junctions, seals cable entries against moisture and dust, adds grip surfaces, and creates custom shapes around connectors. It improves durability and environmental protection.

What materials can you mold?

We mold TPE (thermoplastic elastomer), PVC, silicone, polyurethane, and nylon. Material selection depends on flexibility requirements, temperature range, chemical resistance, and environmental sealing needs.

Can you achieve IP67 or IP68 ratings?

Yes, our overmolding process can achieve IP67 and IP68 ratings when properly designed. The mold design, material selection, and process control all contribute to achieving reliable environmental sealing.

How long does tooling take?

Simple mold tooling typically takes 2-3 weeks. Complex multi-cavity or multi-shot molds may take 4-6 weeks. We can often expedite for urgent projects. Tooling is designed in-house for faster turnaround.
